Satellite Internet over Cable Internet?

December 23rd, 2008

That’s a question most people arrive to when they compare costs between satellite and cable internet services. Satellite is definitely not a bargain compared to other types of high-speed internet services. So, why would I ever consider purchasing it?

Satellite internet, specifically HughesNet reasons to follow, is the best choice for many small business owners and people with home offices. The HughesNet service is perfect for small businesses in the fact that you get a secured personal network only accessible by people you choose to grant access. When you access and store personal and private information as all business do, you can’t afford to get your system hacked in to. A HughesNet system is almost impossible to crack in to because of how often they change coding. Also with certain packages you can get up to 20 users on the same network and up to 10 email accounts – perfect for small businesses and home offices. Another bonus is that the network is capable of reaching anywhere in the United States - that’s something cable is incapable of. When you run a business you don’t want to exclude potential customers and clients because of your service.

So there are some of the highlights to why someone would be willing to pay more for a satellite service over a cable service. Bottom line: It might not be for your everyday Joe Schmo, but it makes at lot of sense for Joe Business.

HughesNet Launches New SPACEWAY 3 Satellite

December 10th, 2008

One of the largest satellites ever built, Hughes Networks Systems’ SPACEWAY 3 satellite was launched last August from Kourou, French Guiana. The company says the new bird should ease their capacity crunch, though it isn’t expected to be operation until the first quarter of next year. The technical specifics from the engineers at Hughes:

The SPACEWAY system was designed and developed by Hughes as a next- generation, Ka-band broadband satellite system, the world’s first commercial satellite to employ on-board traffic switching and routing capability. Combined with many other advances in satellite technology, such as 10 Gbps overall capacity, fast packet switching, and dynamic beam forming, the SPACEWAY 3 satellite ushers in a new world of bandwidth-on-demand satellite services with true site-to-site, single-hop networking of high-performance ground terminals.

According to Hughes, they accepted handover of the satellite from Boeing today, and will begin pre-commercial testing of the satellite immediately. In conversations with the company, they’ve so far been unwilling to clarify to us if the new capacity will result in the company easing up on some of its bandwith caps.

Satellite Internet - Where No Cable Has Gone Before

November 20th, 2008

Most people already get the internet in homes through a cable or phone line. So where does satellite internet come in to play. Well for the people with dial-up, making a switch to anything else would be an upgrade, so there’s one option for you. But most satellite internet subscribers come from places far-far away. Rural America. It’s too expensive for cable companies to wire every house ever built, especially homes where the neighbors are a good drive away. So what happens when you need to check your email and cable is nowhere where to be found? You look to the skies. That’s when satellite internet becomes the best invention since satellite TV for the wonderful people of rural America. And of course that’s because if they don’t have a cable for the internet obviously they don’t have cable for the TV. (which is actually the reason satellite TV was invented in the first place)

So next time you find yourself without a connection or fed-up with dial-up, you can always look to the skies to take care of you. Check out HughesNet or call 1-888-667-5537.
